Beginner get to know your overlocker workshop

Do you have an overlocker but not sure how to get started? Want to gain confidence and new skills? In this day course, Helen will teach you how to get to grips with your overlock machine from threading, right through to rolled hems and finding the best tension for a variety of fabric types. By the end of the workshop you should feel confident setting up and using your machine. See below for full details

Please note that a machine that has been sat in storage for some time may need a service in order to work to its fullest.

Ability Level: Beginner

Course Duration:Saturday 30th November, 9.30am - 4pm

You will learn:

How to thread your machine from scratch

Learn how to obtain the correct stitch tension for a variety of fabrics

Using a 3 and 4 thread overlock as well as a wide 3 thread overlock

How to stitch a rolled hem and flatlock seams and hems

Begin using your overlocker to create a bag

You will need to bring:

Tools:

An overlock machine in good working order. Please note that a machine that has been sat unused for some time will need a service to run to its full potential

Your overlock machine manual

General sewing kit including tweezers, tape measure and pins

Fabric Scissors

Tailor’s chalk or other fabric marker

Needles and Thread

A notebook and pen

Materials:

4 different coloured threads, for example Madeira Aerolock No. 125 Overlocking Thread

A variety of different fabrics, including woven and knitted constructions

3 or more fat quarters of fabric, such as patchwork cotton, cotton poplin or calico

½ metre of heavy-weight interfacing

About your tutor:

Helen has a passion for sewing and textiles. Currently she does private tuition, workshops, commission sewing, repairs and alterations.

She has over thirty years teaching experience, both with children and adults. She especially enjoys passing her knowledge onto others and seeing their delight in their achievements.
