Sew the Thea Trousers - Intermediate Dressmaking

Elevate your sewing skills by tackling trousers! In this day workshop, Wendy will guide you through the pattern, showing you tips and tricks for getting the right fit and learning new skills such as inserting a zip and button fly as well as back darts and a curved waistband. We will be using the curved patch pockets for this workshop.

Ability Level: Improvers and up. You should have some experience of sewing from patterns to get the most from this workshop.

Course Duration: Saturday 23rd November, 10am - 4pm

You will learn:

-How to improve your dressmaking skills

- How to construct trousers

- How to sew buttonholes

- How to insert a zippered fly

You will need to bring:

Tools needed:

- A sewing machine in good working order.Please note that a machine that has been sat unused for some time will likely need a service to be able to run to its full potential.

- A buttonhole foot for your machine

- A basic sewing kit to include: dressmaking scissors, small scissors, dressmakers' pins, tape measure, seam ripper, hand sewing needles and safety pins

Materials needed:

- Main fabric – see requirements according to size and style: Medium-weight woven fabrics, such as linen, twill, denim, corduroy, triple crêpe, wool suiting.

- Lining fabric for pockets: light- to medium-weight cotton, viscose (rayon), or lining fabric such as cupro (Bemberg).

- 50cm iron on interfacing

- Matching Thread

- 15cm (6") closed ended zip

- 15mm (⅝in) wide button with shank

- The pattern will be provided as part of the workshop

About your tutor:

Wendy is a bespoke dressmaker and costume maker. She studied fashion design and pattern cutting in London back in the 1970’s and also qualified in millinery. She started her career working for a London film and stage costumier, making costumes and has also worked in pattern cutting and size grading for a high street store. Since then, she has been dressmaking and making stage costume, historical costume, bridal and prom wear. Her speciality is working with finer fabrics with focus on detail and fit.
