Some fabrics arrive with a story already woven in, and this deadstock deep-indigo selvedge denim has a good one. Woven in Italy by Candiani, the historic family-run mill behind premium, eco-friendly denim for major fashion brands, it brings something special to your next make. Its traditional 3×1 right-hand twill creates a proper diagonal grain and sturdy heritage character, while the 100% cotton will soften and fade into a finish that is entirely your own.

At 11.25oz, it is substantial enough for premium jeans, chore jackets and overshirts without bulky workwear weight. We’d also reach for it for a hard-working apron or bag. The 83cm selvedge width is part of its shuttle-loom charm, so allow for it in your cutting plan and let those finished edges have their moment.

Pre-Wash is Essential!

Before sewing, always pre-wash your denim to prevent shrinkage later. Wash it on a cold or lukewarm cycle with mild detergent and air dry to keep the fabric’s structure intact.

Wash Less, Wear More

Denim doesn’t need frequent washing. Instead, spot-clean small stains and air your garments to keep them fresh. When a full wash is necessary, turn items inside out and use a cold wash to preserve colour.

Opt for a gentle, non-bio detergent to prevent fading and keep denim soft. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can break down fibres and dull the colour.

Skip the Tumble Dryer (If You Can!)

High heat can cause denim to shrink and weaken over time. Air dry where possible, laying flat or hanging to maintain its shape. If using a dryer, choose low heat to reduce stress on the fabric.

Iron with Care

Denim doesn’t need much ironing, but if wrinkles appear, use a medium heat setting with steam. For stubborn creases, a damp cloth between the iron and fabric works wonders.
