The Folkwear 131 Tibetan Chupa is a PDF sewing pattern for creating a traditional Tibetan wrap jumper, available in sizes Extra Small to Extra Large. With its centuries-long history in Tibetan dress, the Chupa is a distinctive garment that combines a slim silhouette with practical wrap styling.

The design features an asymmetrical wrap front, front and back shaping darts, a wide neckband and simply faced armholes. Unique side extensions wrap around the back and tie at the front, creating the characteristic wrapped shape while allowing enough room for comfortable movement.

Traditionally, the Chupa is worn with additional layers, including aprons, woollen sashes and a panel coat, such as the Folkwear 118 Tibetan Panel Coat. It can also be worn on its own or layered over a blouse, such as the Folkwear 111 Nepali Blouse, making it a versatile addition to your handmade wardrobe.

Both the Chupa and its Chupa-inspired wrap skirt can be made in a traditional ankle-length version or a shorter below-the-knee length. The distinctive side extensions provide additional leg room, making walking easier than in many conventional wrap skirts.

For your own interpretation, choose from medium-weight cottons and blends, linen, wool or silk. Whether you prefer denim, corduroy, tweed or a softer silk fabric, this Tibetan wrap jumper sewing pattern offers plenty of scope to explore different textures and finishes.
