Cotton Babycord Fabric - Cornish National Tartan

This 100% cotton babycord fabric is printed in the Cornish National Tartan, featuring a rich mustard yellow and black tartan with accents of red and blue. Made in a fine 19 wale pinwale cord, this fabric has a beautifully soft, velvety surface and a lighter weight than traditional corduroy, making it comfortable and easy to wear.

Often called pinwale cord, this babycord has a gentle structure with a cosy handle, making it ideal for autumn and winter dressmaking. It is perfect for pinafores, skirts, trousers, and dungarees, as well as baby and children’s clothing where softness and warmth are essential.

The Cornish National Tartan was the first official tartan of Cornwall. Each colour reflects an aspect of Cornish heritage. Black and gold represent the Kings of Cornwall, red symbolises the beak and legs of the Cornish Chough, while bluereferences the Atlantic Ocean. At the heart of the design sits St Piran’s flag, the emblem of Cornwall itself.
