The Folkwear Cynthia's Cookie Apron is a PDF sewing pattern for creating a practical, vintage-inspired apron with plenty of useful storage. Available in three sizes, XS/SM, MD/LG and XL/2XL, this classic design combines full coverage with thoughtful details for everyday cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and household tasks.
The story behind the pattern comes from Cynthia, a long-time Folkwear fan and employee, whose grandmother made and wore the original apron. Her grandmother drafted the design from a pattern featured in a 1900s women's magazine borrowed from her own mother. It became such a useful favourite that she continued making and wearing different versions throughout her life, whatever she was doing.
The apron features built-in straps that cross over at the back and button onto the bib, making it easy to put on while providing full coverage. A practical pocket on the bib gives you somewhere to keep essentials such as your glasses, pen or mobile phone. You can adjust the stitching to accommodate the items you want to carry.
Two oversized, deep patch pockets provide plenty of room for everyday necessities. You can also recreate a special detail from Cynthia's grandmother's original design by adding a small 'tissue' pocket to the patch pockets. This extra pocket is useful for keeping tissues or safely storing rings while baking, cooking or cleaning.
Whether you are making an apron for yourself or as a thoughtful handmade gift, this versatile design is ideal for bringing a little vintage character to everyday activities or adding something special to your seasonal baking and crafting.
The designer recommends light to medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton and linen. Quilting cotton is another good choice. Please check your fabric width before purchasing, as the different size groups have specific width requirements.
And you get a favorite cookie recipe with this apron! NOTE: for the cookie recipe, it should read 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
The PDF pattern has instructions and files for copy shop (36” and A0), print at home (A4 and 8.5”x11”)
