Matching Gütermann Sew All Thread
Your next pair of handmade jeans starts here, with a deadstock heritage American jeanswear production denim. This darker indigo denim has that classic workwear look, with a little stretch to make close-fitting jeans, shorts and jumpsuits more comfortable to wear.
Made from 99% cotton and 1% elastane, this deadstock denim has a predominantly cotton feel with a touch of give. It's a great option for sewing patterns that call for denim with slight stretch, particularly when you're after a closer fit that allows for easier movement without the rigidity of traditional non-stretch denim.
The denim is supplied unwashed, so the deep indigo colour will soften and develop character with wear and washing. Over time, the fabric will relax and mould to your shape, helping your handmade jeans become uniquely yours.
Please note: Heavily dyed denim can release excess surface dye. We recommend soaking in cold water before cutting and sewing, washing separately at first and taking care around pale fabrics and upholstery. Always check your sewing pattern's stretch requirements before starting your project.

1. Pre-Wash is Essential!
Before sewing, always pre-wash your denim to prevent shrinkage later. Wash it on a cold or lukewarm cycle with mild detergent and air dry to keep the fabric’s structure intact.
2. Wash Less, Wear More
Denim doesn’t need frequent washing. Instead, spot-clean small stains and air your garments to keep them fresh. When a full wash is necessary, turn items inside out and use a cold wash to preserve colour.
Opt for a gentle, non-bio detergent to prevent fading and keep denim soft. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can break down fibres and dull the colour.
4. Skip the Tumble Dryer (If You Can!)
High heat can cause denim to shrink and weaken over time. Air dry where possible, laying flat or hanging to maintain its shape. If using a dryer, choose low heat to reduce stress on the fabric.
5. Iron with Care
Denim doesn’t need much ironing, but if wrinkles appear, use a medium heat setting with steam. For stubborn creases, a damp cloth between the iron and fabric works wonders.

We do our best to represent colours as accurately as possible in our photography, however colours can vary between screens and devices. Colours may appear slightly different in person due to monitor calibration, lighting conditions, and the nature of photographic reproduction.
If you are unsure about a colour, we recommend ordering a fabric sample before purchasing.
