The Lucia Dress by NH Patterns is an elegant midi dress sewing pattern featuring a square neckline, panelled construction and double princess seams for a beautifully shaped fit. With the choice of a low back or a higher back option for extra coverage, this versatile dress can be sewn for everyday wear, occasion dressing or summer events.

This paper sewing pattern includes a centre back zip fastening and an unlined finish, making it ideal for light to medium weight woven dressmaking fabrics such as linen, cotton poplin, viscose, tencel and lightweight blends with soft structure and drape.

Designed for intermediate sewists, the Lucia Dress is a great project for building confidence with techniques such as inserting zips and sewing facings. The panelled bodice and clean silhouette create a polished handmade finish that looks effortlessly timeless.

Available in UK sizes 4-34 across two size ranges: UK 4-20 and UK 16-34.

Skill Level: Intermediate

This pattern has been designed for light to medium-weight woven fabric with little to no stretch. We recommend something with a nice structure and nothing too light. You want it to have a little bit of weight to support the shape of the dress. Crisp cottons of a shirting weight, cotton twill, light-weight denim and chambray, linen and linen blends, Tencel, and suitings are all perfect for this dress.

- 30cm/12” invisible/concealed zipper (low back option) or 40cm/16” invisible/concealed zipper (higher back option).

- Small amount of lightweight fusible interfacing (neckline section only).

NOTE: If you are using a mid weight fabric such as denim, you could use a standard dress zipper instead of invisible zipper. You can switch out the type of zipper depending on the weight of fabric. Consider that if you use a standard dress zipper, it will add approximately 5mm or 3/16” to the centre back.
