For the mini cat doll, choose a lightweight to medium-weight woven fabric such as linen, cotton or a linen-cotton blend. These fabrics are easy to sew and provide enough structure for the small-scale doll while still giving the finished cat a soft, handmade feel.
For the miniature clothing and accessories, lightweight woven dressmaking fabrics work well. This is a great opportunity to use small fabric scraps, offcuts and remnants, particularly when making the tiny garments and bows.
Wool felt is also required for the colour patches on the mini cat doll. Choose embroidery threads to complement your fabric when creating the embroidered facial features.
- Linen
- Cotton
- Linen-cotton blends
- Lightweight woven fabrics for the doll clothes
- Wool felt for colour patches
You'll need a sewing machine for constructing the doll and miniature clothing, along with basic sewing and embroidery tools. A turning tool such as a chopstick is particularly useful when working with the small doll pieces.
For the mini cat doll and outfits, you'll need:
- Linen, cotton or a linen-cotton blend for the doll
- Fabric for the miniature garments and accessories
- Wool felt for the colour patches
- 100% polyester sewing thread in a matching colour
- Stuffing
- Embroidery thread for the face
- 1/4 inch wide elastic for the mini raglan dress
Basic tools required include a sewing machine, embroidery needle, fabric scissors, paper scissors, ruler, pins, iron, erasable fabric pen and a turning tool such as a chopstick. Fabric paint, a coloured pencil or blush can be used to add colour to the doll's cheeks.
