Fehr Trade - PDF Sewing Pattern - Threshold Shorts

The Fehr Trade Threshold Shorts sewing pattern is designed for running and activewear, with a lightweight construction that's suited to everything from road running to other high-movement activities. The shorts can be made in woven or stretch fabrics and feature curved seamlines, a bound hem, elasticated waist and three optional pockets.

An optional runderwear brief or thong is also included. Attach it directly to the waistband of the shorts for integrated coverage, or make it separately as a standalone piece. The runderwear is drafted for four-way stretch jersey with good recovery and has 10% negative ease, giving a finished garment that is 90% of the body measurements.

The shorts themselves are drafted with some ease and have a 5cm (2in) inseam. Choose lightweight performance fabrics such as aerated wicking polyester, including Dri-Fit or CoolMax, or lightweight woven nylon similar to RipStop. For the runderwear, use a four-way stretch Lycra jersey with at least 50% stretch in both directions and good recovery.

The Threshold Shorts require Intermediate sewing skills, with some experience sewing knits expected. The pattern includes fully illustrated instructions as well as diagrams showing common fit adjustments, particularly useful for the pattern's unconventional seamlines.

The digital pattern includes layered A4 and US Letter Print at Home files, an A0 and 36-inch-wide Copy Shop version and a projector-optimised file. The complete pattern uses 21 pages: 15 pages for the shorts and six additional pages for the runderwear.

The pattern was developed by a long-distance runner and sewist and was road-tested by the designer and a team of fellow fit sewists. The Threshold Shorts were in development for over four months, with the designer running the 2014 Berlin Marathon in a pair.
