The Samara Top by Tilly and the Buttons is a relaxed, easy-to-sew top pattern designed with beginners in mind. With its modern loose fit, drop shoulders and simple construction, this versatile sewing pattern is perfect for creating effortless everyday handmade garments.

The pattern includes plenty of customisable options, including a choice of hip-length or cropped hems and four different sleeve styles. Choose from short or bracelet-length straight sleeves, or sew elbow-length or full-length sleeves with elasticated cuffs for a softer, more gathered look.

Designed for woven dressmaking fabrics such as cotton lawn, linen, chambray, viscose and lightweight blends, the Samara Top works beautifully as an easy summer sewing project or stylish layering piece.

This independent sewing pattern is ideal for beginners, featuring straightforward construction, a V neckline finished with a facing and clear step-by-step photo instructions to guide you through the sewing process with confidence.

Light-to medium-weight fabrics such as cotton lawn, poplin, seersucker, double gauze, washed linen, and linen-viscose blends. If you’re a more confident stitcher, try viscose (rayon), lyocell (Tencel), or crêpe de chine.

0.4m (1/2yd) x 90cm (1yd) wide iron-on interfacing (similar weight to your fabric)

For lightweight/crinkled fabric: 0.9m (1yd) x 15mm (5/8in) wide bias-cut strips of lightweight interfacing or iron-on stay tape

For elasticated sleeve versions: 0.75m (7/8yd) x 20mm (¾in) wide elastic, plus 2 safety pins
