Traditional Kilt Weight Wool Twill - St Piran's Cornish Tartan

A truly special piece of Cornish cloth, this St Piran's Tartan is woven in 100% pure wool in the traditional black, white and red colours. Made to a traditional kilt weight, this is a substantial, beautifully woven tartan with the quality and presence you expect from a fabric of this kind.

At 16oz, it has considerable weight and body, with a classic twill weave that gives the surface its distinctive diagonal texture and helps the fabric drape beautifully while retaining plenty of structure. This is not a lightweight tartan simply printed onto cloth. The colour and pattern are built into the weave, giving you the depth and character of genuine woven tartan.

The generous tartan repeat measures approximately 22.6cm across the warp and 21.9cm across the weft, giving the pattern plenty of impact. This is particularly important when planning garments, as the larger repeat allows you to make a real feature of the tartan and carefully match the design across seams and panels.

Traditionally suited to kilts and other tailored garments, this substantial pure wool tartan is also beautiful for jackets, coats, waistcoats, skirts and other statement pieces where the fabric itself deserves to be centre stage. A note on the weight: at 335gsm, this is a genuinely substantial wool fabric with the body and warmth you'd expect from traditional kilt-weight tartan. It is very different from lightweight cotton tartans and shirt-weight checks.
