Birgitta Helmersson - PDF Sewing Pattern - ZW Block Pant
The Birgitta Helmersson ZW Block Pant PDF Sewing Pattern combines modern, comfortable trouser design with innovative zero waste pattern cutting. Designed to minimise fabric waste, this unique sewing pattern uses a paperless drafting method where pattern pieces are drawn directly onto your fabric using the included cutting plan and printable templates.
Unlike traditional PDF sewing patterns, there are no large paper pattern pieces to print, cut and assemble. Instead, you'll receive detailed instructions and a size-specific cutting plan that allows you to create your garment while using your fabric efficiently. This makes the ZW Block Pant an ideal project for sewists interested in sustainable sewing, mindful fabric use and learning alternative pattern cutting techniques.
The ZW Block Pant features a comfortable elasticated waistband with an attached waistband, front pleats for a slightly tailored look, concealed in-seam front pockets and practical patch pockets at the back. A unique feature seam runs across the back legs, with placement varying depending on your chosen size. The relaxed silhouette makes these trousers a versatile handmade wardrobe staple.
This pattern includes 10 sizes from XS–6XL, with each size supplied with its own detailed cutting plan booklet. The zero waste method also allows flexibility when working with different fabric widths, making it easier to adapt the pattern, adjust fit and use leftover fabrics or remnants.
The pattern includes one bonus hack option to transform the trousers into a skirt with patch pockets and an elasticated waistband.
As a digital sewing pattern, your files are available to download instantly after purchase. Only the cutting plan booklet and templates need to be printed, with the required pages varying by size. All instructions are provided in both metric and imperial measurements and are suitable for printing at home on A4 or US Letter paper.
Please note: This sewing pattern is licensed for personal and non-profit use only and may not be used for commercial production.
What is a Zero Waste Sewing Pattern?
Zero waste sewing patterns are designed to use almost every centimetre of your fabric, dramatically reducing fabric waste compared to traditional sewing patterns.
Rather than cutting around large printed paper pattern pieces, you'll draw the pattern directly onto your fabric using the included cutting plans and templates. This method saves paper, reduces leftover fabric scraps and gives you more flexibility to customise your garment.
Zero waste pattern cutting works a little like a puzzle, strategically arranging the garment pieces within your fabric length and width to ensure the majority of the fabric is used. It also helps sewists develop self-drafting skills, understand garment construction and experiment with different fabric widths and leftover materials.
Birgitta Helmersson's zero waste sewing patterns are ideal for anyone looking to create more sustainable handmade clothing while learning a different approach to pattern making.
